Riverland’s Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree in Applied Technology helps graduates of career and technical diploma programs continue their education and strengthen their career opportunities. This 60-credit degree is typically completed in four semesters and is available at the Albert Lea, Austin, and Owatonna campuses, as well as online. Courses are offered in fall, spring, and summer to provide flexible scheduling.

If you have already earned a technical diploma from an accredited college, you may be able to apply those credits toward this degree. The program allows you to build on your existing technical training while adding general education courses that support career growth and advancement.

What Is the Applied Technology AAS Degree?

The Applied Technology AAS degree is designed for students who have already completed a career or technical diploma. Instead of starting another technical program, this degree allows you to expand your education by adding general education and additional coursework to your existing training.

This pathway helps diploma graduates strengthen their resume, expand their knowledge, and earn an associate degree that can support career advancement.

Flexible Pathways

  • Apply up to 21 credits from the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum toward your degree.
  • Take general education courses while enrolled in a career technical diploma program.
  • Transfer general education credits from other accredited colleges to Riverland.

Program Details

  • You may earn this degree even if your technical diploma was completed in the past.
  • The degree requires a total of 60 credits.
  • A minimum of 20 credits must be completed at Riverland Community College.
  • If transferring credits from other Minnesota State institutions, at least 12 credits must be taken at Riverland.
