The Associate of Arts (AA) Degree program at Riverland Community College provides students with a comprehensive academic foundation, equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary for success in higher education and beyond.

Program Structure:

  • Credit Requirements: Successful completion of 60-semester credits is required to earn the AA Degree.
  • Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC): Forty of the 60 credits must be selected from the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum requirements, ensuring seamless transferability to other institutions.
  • Electives: The remaining credits serve as electives and may be chosen from any course numbered 1000 or higher.
  • Health and Wellness Requirement: One elective credit must be from PHED, HLTH, EMER, HCNA1200, or THTR1111 to fulfill the college's health and wellness requirement.
  • First Year Student Success Experience: Students transferring less than 12 credits with a GPA below 2.0 must complete either CCLS1000 or CCLS1010.
  • Credit Residency Requirement: A minimum of 20 semester credits must be taken at Riverland, reduced to 12 credits for students transferring from another Minnesota State College or University.
  • Minimum GPA: A minimum grade point average of 2.0 is required both in MnTC coursework and overall.

Course Requirements:

  • Discipline Areas: Courses must meet credit requirements in each of the five discipline areas: Communications (CM), Humanities and Fine Arts (HU), Social Sciences (SS), Natural Sciences (NS), and Mathematics/Logical Reasoning (MA).
  • Thematic Areas: At least one course must be taken in each of the five thematic areas: Critical Thinking (CT), Ethical and Civic Responsibility (EC), Human Diversity (HD), Global Perspective (GP), and People and the Environment (PE).
  • MnTC Completion: A total of 40 semester credits must be completed in the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum.
