Emphasis on plan reading fundamentals and utilizing examples related to commercial construction principles. The course addresses construction terminology, detail hierarchies, scale, content, notes and specifications, reference conventions, and computer applications. The utilization of electronic drawing software will be part of coursework. (3 cr. – 3 lect, 0 lab)

The basic construction methods and materials used in building technologies are examined. Common building materials such as wood, masonry, concrete, and metals will be reviewed as it relates to commercial construction applications. Processes utilized in material handling and installation are examined for their effect on managing design and construction projects. (3Cr – 2 lect, 1 lab)

This course consists of a systematic study of basic management processes including planning, organizing, leading and controlling within an organizational setting. It examines the historical and philosophical foundations of management as well as current theory and practices. Topics include operation management, decision-making, ethics and corporate responsibility, planning resource management, labor relations, workgroups, leadership, organizational design and development, strategic management, international management, cultural diversity, and technology. Effective management principles are examined. (3 Cr – 3 lect, 0 lab)

This course covers principles of quantity takeoffs, identification of symbols, and computation of materials from a set of commercial construction working drawings utilizing the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) divisions. (3Cr – 2 lect, 1 lab)

Overview of construction documents including working drawings, specifications and other related AIA contract documents. Emphasis on development of a project manual, legal and ethical aspects, and divisions of work. (3 cr. – 3 lect 0 Lab)

Analyze a sequence of construction tasks using network diagrams, Gantt charts, and the critical path method to create a project schedule. Understanding project planning, scheduling and control models with emphasis on the critical path method. Introduction to the techniques used in industry utilizing commercial software on personal computers, highlighting the importance of analysis of schedules; considering and understanding schedule alternatives will be stressed.
