Foundations of Practical Nursing introduces the student to the profession of nursing at the practical nursing level and to the nursing process/ NCSBN Clinical Judgement Measurement Model. These concepts provide the student with a beginning framework for evidence based clinical decision making. The key concepts of teamwork and collaboration, safety, quality improvement, professional identity /behavior, patient/relationship centered care, nursing judgment/evidence-based practice, managing care of the individual patient, and informatics/technology are introduced. The clinical student reflects on the value of patient centered care, teamwork and collaboration, informatics, quality improvement, safety, managing care of the individual patient, and nursing judgment/evidence-based care in his/her career as an LPN. This portion of clinical is presented in the Dedicated Education Unit (DEU).
