Riverland Community Gay-Straight Alliance (RCGSA) will present the award-winning "STAGE LEFT,” a performance of drama, music, and discussion dealing with gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT) issues. The presentation includes drama, music, poetry, and personal stories performed, primarily, by Riverland students and alumni. “STAGE LEFT” is Thursday, Dec. 1, 7 p.m., in the Riverland Community College, Room 124, (lecture hall) at the Albert Lea Campus. And Tuesday, Dec. 6, 7 p.m. at Riverland Community College’s Frank W. Bridges Theatre in the East Building of the Austin Campus. Admission is free for both events.
“STAGE LEFT" stands for Straights and Gays for Equality - Listening Entertaining Facilitating Teaching. The evening will include an eclectic mix of entertainment including scenes and monologues from popular plays including The Laramie Project and The Children’s Hour, poetry and first-hand accounts written by GLBT persons about growing up/coming out, and musical pieces including songs from Into the Woods, La Cage Aux Folles and Honk! The evening will conclude with an open floor question and discussion session. For more information contact Q&A at 507-438-2502.
RCGSA exists to actively support the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, and questioning population; to advocate for respect, dignity, and basic civil rights for everyone, regardless of sexual identity; and to educate the college and its communities regarding these issues. The RCGSA is open to all students, faculty, and staff who are interested in supporting and advocating for the GLBTQ community.
In 2009, the Diversity and Multiculturalism division of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities awarded Riverland Community Gay-Straight Alliance's (RCGSA) STAGE LEFT an award in the first annual Diversity Awards in the Outstanding Student Organization Diversity Award category.
