Riverland hosts information sessions for 'Scandinavian Sprint' travel-study trip

Release Date: September 29, 2016

Riverland Community College’s World Cultural Studies class is offering a new travel-study opportunity exploring Oslo, Norway, Stockholm, Sweden and Copenhagen, Denmark.

The “Scandinavian Sprint,” a travel-study trip that focuses on Scandinavia’s music, art, theater and history is scheduled for March 3-11, 2017 and is open to anyone over the age of 18. Participants must register for a 2-credit course at Riverland, however, the course may be audited to eliminate any academic responsibility for people interested in participating in the trip that do not wish to receive a grade. There is a special rate for Minnesota senior citizens.

Participants receive round trip motor coach transportation from Riverland’s Austin campus to Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport, a round-trip, one-stop flight, motor coach transportation to and from airports and hotels, train transportation between cities, and centrally-located hotel lodging in Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo. Experienced faculty serve as guides and the course includes four pre-trip meetings to help participants customize the trip to their cultural, historical and personal interests.

Special informational sessions to discuss the Scandinavian Sprint will be held Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 12 p.m. in room C124 and 6:30 pm in room C108. All meetings will be held in the East Building on the Austin Campus.

“We’ve put together a very affordable package for travelers to visit three vibrant cities in Scandinavia,” said Lindsey Williams, Theatre faculty member.  “While faculty members are present to help travelers navigate each destination, everyone is free to see the sights and attend the attractions that they wish.  Participants can customize the trip to their own interests and desires.  This trip is a great opportunity for those who have never traveled abroad before; with all of the travel arrangements already made, they can just focus on getting the most out of their time in each city.”

The class is limited to 28 participants. Registrations will be accepted until Nov. 21, 2016 or until space is filled. More information is available online at www.riverland.edu/scandinaviansprint or by calling Lindsey Williams at 507-434-7390 or emailing lindsey.williams@riverland.edu.
