Riverland Community College Theatre and music departments present their first musical of the 2017-2018 season, the romantic comedy She Loves Me.
Set in a 1930s European perfumery, shop clerks Amalia and Georg don't see eye to eye. After both respond to a "lonely hearts" advertisement in the newspaper, they now live for the love letters that they exchange, but the identity of their admirers remains unknown. Inspired by the classic film The Shop around the Corner (which also served as the inspiration for the hit film You've Got Mail), She Loves Me is a warm romantic comedy with an endearing innocence and a touch of old world elegance. The musical is rated PG.
She Loves Me features music by Jerry Bock and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick. The book is by Joe Masteroff. Lindsey Duoos Williams directs the production. Choreography is by Marny Rohr. The vocal director is Kaye Perry and the orchestra is conducted by Brian Koser. The set and lighting designer is John Deyo. The costumes are by Madlain Vander. The production is stage managed by Carrie Braaten.
She Loves Me features Caoimhe Farrell as a Customer, KariLynn Finley-Cook as the Busboy/Customer, Joseph Gerber as Mr. Keller/Customer, Austin Dean Hodnefield as Ladislav Sipos, Jannel Howard as Amalia Balash, Anders Nelson as Georg Nowack, Lindsey McAlister as Ilona Ritter, Sadie Mortenson as a Customer, Maurene Olson as the Waiter/Customer, Momen Salama as Arpad Laszlo, Mandie Siems as a Customer, Vic Wylde as Steven Kodaly, and James Zschunke as Mr. Maraczek.
Director Lindsey Duoos Williams says, “This is a classic musical that is being staged for the first time at Riverland Community College. The show features a wonderful score by the team who wrote Fiddler on the Roof. So many of the songs are now musical theatre standards: Tonight at Eight, Vanilla Ice Cream, A Trip to the Library and She Loves Me. It is the perfect holiday entertainment: warm, funny, romantic, and you’ll leave the theatre humming the tunes.”
She Loves Me will be performed Nov. 15, 16, 17 and 18 at 7 p.m. and November 19 at 2 p.m. at the Frank W. Bridges Theatre.
