BETWIXT" An Installation by HOLLY STREEKSTRA

The James Wegner Art Gallery has been transformed by guest artist Holly Streekstra. The entire gallery experience is considered a single work of art, and the installation "Betwixt" allows our imagination, desire for mystery and wonder to interact with objects and situations that call to mind, or literally are, physical processes of growth and transformation. The show references the classical elements (air, earth, water and fire), here represented in a contemporary form and with some irony. The viewer's reactions are important to the artist, and the show provokes thought about our reception to the objects presented, especially in the context of a highly mediated society in which "enchantment" often forms the basis for underlying persuasive messages. The artist wishes to raise questions within each individual regarding our accepted notions and reactions, our choice to suspend disbelief and our capacity for doubt.

Holy Streekstra has shown her work extensively, including international exhibits in England, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Finland, and Cuba as well as in locations throughout the United States. She has a Master of Fine Arts degree from Louisiana State University and currently teaches as an adjunct faculty at Hamline University in St. Paul, MN.
