Outside of their work days at Riverland Community College, Dr. Richard Campbell, English Instructor and Keith Cich, Assistant Librarian have been busy making visually strong and thought provoking works. First showing side by side at last summer’s Austin ArtWorks festival, the current exhibit brings them together in a gallery setting for the first time.
Richard Campbell’s tile mosaics have shown growth and evolution through a succession of stylistic shifts. This show features both traditional “Greenman” imagery as well as light-hearted pieces that have been influenced by early twentieth century styles such as cubism and early abstraction by Kandinsky. Campbell’s investigation of the medium characteristically shows rich textural variations and play with intricate shapes.
Keith Cich’s photographic project revolves around a revisitation of locales associated with the Dakota Conflict of 1862. The works are intriguing, encouraging contemplation of change and the relationship between that violent time and today. Keith has a BFA in photography and has shown his work numerous times. He received a SEMAC grant in support of this exhibition.
