Exhibition Statement:
Follow the Materials is an exhibition of nine artists who allow what they work with to guide their hands, leading them in exciting, experimental, and thought-provoking directions. Though not unified in theme, the work is unified by a spirit of artistic exploration. This group show revels in the stunning range of possibilities that open up when artists collaborate with their materials.
Curated by Marc Clements and K Daphnae Koop, the team that runs the Minneapolis art space Follow the Muse, this exhibition promises a wide-ranging blend of perspectives and styles, showing the power of an artist’s materials to shape their expression.
The diversity of the work shines with unusual visuals and a unique creative spirit. The cohesiveness of this exhibition comes, not in the overall appearance, but in the experimental and process-based approach that led to each artist’s creations, while the show’s spirit reflects each artist’s attempt to reach deeply into the heart of the viewer.
