Preble's paintings involve themselves with her love of patterns, especially those incorporating circles, in rich layered works that build in complexity through her responsive creative process, and may suggest an underlying narrative. Klemme calls her sewn soft- sculpture creations "monsters". Though far more appealing than the name suggests, their intentionally awkward qualities hint at issues of personal body image.
Together, the works play off one another in a fascinating way. The affect is both whimsical and playful, as well as thought provoking.
