Student Status

Student status is defined as follows:

  • Full-time = 12 or more credits
  • 1/2 time = 6-8 credits
  • 3/4 time = 9-11 credits
  • less than 1/2 time = 1-5 credits

Student status is different for students receiving financial aid from Minnesota financial aid programs.

Minnesota financial aid programs consider 15 credits per semester a full-time student.

A freshman is a student with fewer than 30 credits earned and a sophomore is a student with 31 or more semester credits earned.

A student needs to take an average of 15 credits each semester to graduate in two years.
