Student Status Definitions
Student status is defined as follows:
- Full-time = 12 or more credits
- 3/4 time = 9-11 credits
- 1/2 time = 6-8 credits
- Less than 1/2 time = 1-5 credits
Minnesota Financial Aid Considerations
Student status is different for students receiving financial aid from Minnesota financial aid programs.
Minnesota financial aid programs consider 15 credits per semester a full-time student.

A freshman is a student with fewer than 30 credits earned and a sophomore is a student with 30 or more semester credits earned.
