Build Advanced Skills in Automation and Robotics

Companies across manufacturing, packaging, and supply chain industries need skilled technicians who can build, install, and troubleshoot automated systems. Riverland's Automation Robotics Occupational Technology Certificate gives you hands-on training to become a multi-skilled technician ready for advanced manufacturing environments.

Whether you are a recent high school graduate ready to start a technical career or an adult learner looking to build in-demand skills, this certificate prepares you for real jobs maintaining and operating the automated systems that keep modern manufacturing running.

Is This Path Right for You?

Recent high school graduate or PSEO student: This certificate gives you hands-on, real-world skills in automation and robotics. From here, you can move directly into the workforce or continue toward additional credentials at Riverland.

Adult learner or career changer: Full-time and part-time scheduling options let you fit this certificate around your current job and responsibilities while you build skills for a new career.

Common Questions About This Certificate

What will I learn?

You will build hands-on skills in robotics, automation, and mechanical systems, and learn how to build, install, and troubleshoot the automated machinery used in packaging, supply chains, and other manufacturing systems. You will also practice identifying and solving problems quickly to keep production running smoothly.

Do I need to complete the Automation and Robotics Foundations Certificate first?

No. This certificate is a good fit if you already have some hands-on experience, whether from Riverland's Foundations Certificate, a job in a plant or factory, shop class, or robotics club, and you want to build more advanced automation skills. If you are brand new to the field, the Foundations Certificate is a great place to start, but it is not required to enroll here.

All of Riverland's automation and robotics credentials stack together. Credits you earn in this certificate count toward the Automation Robotics Technician Diploma and Engineering Technology AAS, so nothing you complete goes to waste, even if you take a break to work in between. See how all four credentials fit together.

What jobs can this lead to?

Graduates work in roles such as automation systems support, robotics systems operations, industrial maintenance, manufacturing operations, and control systems support.

$63,510
Median annual wage for industrial machinery mechanics and maintenance technicians
13%
Projected job growth, 2024 to 2034, much faster than average

Most employers only require a high school diploma or equivalent to start in this field, so this certificate builds directly on what you already have. With strong demand and faster than average growth, technicians with these skills are needed across manufacturing industries nationwide.

How long will it take, and can I work while I'm in school?

This certificate is 17 credits, completed in one to two semesters. You can choose full-time or part-time scheduling to fit your work and life commitments.

What can I do after I finish this certificate?
