Steps to Secure a Seat in the Radiography Program
To be considered for admission, students must:

Be admitted to Riverland Community College.

Complete all 9 prerequisite courses with:
- A minimum grade of C in each course.
- A cumulative minimum GPA of 2.75.

Submit a Radiography Application by the May 23rd deadline date:
- Applications are open from January 1 – May 23rd.

Submit an official transcript for courses taken at a non-MinnState institution:
- Request the institution to send the official transcript to Riverland’s Registration Department.
- The transcript must include final grades and be received by the May 23rd deadline date.

Monitor email for application updates:
- All applicants will be notified of their admission status within 2 weeks of the application deadline date.
- Admitted students will receive further instructions via email regarding:
- Acceptance/Denial contract and additional documents.
- Mandatory orientation date and other requirements.
- Permission to register for the required Radiography courses for Fall and Spring semesters.

Understand program limitations:
- Seats are limited to 20 students per year, making the applicant pool competitive.
- Admission is offered to students with the highest cumulative GPA of the 9 prerequisite courses.
Additional Details:
- The Radiography Program begins every Fall and is a 21 month program consisting of 5 consecutive semesters (not including prerequisite courses).
- If you have all 9 prerequisite courses completed or in progress by the Spring semester, submit your Radiography Application by the May 23rd deadline date to be considered for a seat.
- Achieving A grades in all 9 prerequisite courses gives you the best chance of admission.
9 Prerequisite Courses:
- BIOL 1030 Human Biology (3 credits)
- ENGL 1101 Composition I
- HCNA 1100 Nursing Assistant (3 credits)
- PHIL 1140 Healthcare/Medical Ethics
- PSYCH 1240 Developmental Psychology
- RADT 1200 Introduction to Radiologic Technology (1 credit, only offered in Spring semester)
- RADT 1225 Radiographic Pathology and Medical Terminology (2 credits)
- RADT 1245 Skeletal Anatomy (3 credits, only offered in Spring semester)
- SPCH 1200 Interpersonal Communication
What to Expect If You Are Offered a Seat in the Radiography Program
If you are offered a seat in the Radiography Program:
- Background Check: You will be required to complete and pass a Department of Human Services (DHS) background check.
- Program Structure: The program spans 5 consecutive semesters (not including prerequisite courses):
- Fall, Spring, Summer, Fall, Spring.
- Note: You cannot be part-time or online.
- Class and Practicum Schedule:
- Classes and Practicums run concurrently every semester.
- Classes are held in-person on the Austin (West building) campus.
- Practicum schedules vary in days, hours, and locations.
- Practicum Requirements:
- CPR certification
- Drug screening
- Health insurance
- Immunizations, including a flu vaccination
- Note: Practicums are unpaid.
- GPA Tie-Breaker Criteria: In the event of a GPA tie, the following will be considered, in order:
- Grades earned in BIOL 1030 and RADT 1245.
- Whether the student has earned an AA degree.
- The highest cumulative GPA of the 3 MnTC general education courses required for the program: ENGL, PHIL, and PSYC.
